It was a time that globalization of Europe was trought the religios unity.
This globalization arrived too to Catalonia by the hand of the Cistercian monks. The Royal Monastery of Santes Creus is one of the best examples.
Along the 12th Century, as the border line between christians and muslims went more to the South, and some of the nobles made donation af many lands to the Cistercian order for repopulating these new territories with christians. These are the origins of some of the Cistercian monasteries that today make the route of the Cister.
Santes Creus was founded around 1150 and it was inhabited for 700 years . After 1835 the monastery was abandoned and nowadays is among the architetural jewels of the medieval Catalonia.

We’ll walk around the rooms of the former monastery as algunas de las estancias del antiguo monasterio, as the Captular Room, the bedroom or its two cloisters, and we’ll know how was the daily life of the Cistercian monks monks that lived here.
We’ll visit too the church of the abbot, the best preserved building in the complex, that was the Royal Pantheon in the 14th Century. Inside it the are preserved the graves of the king Peter the Great and his sun, James II with one of his wifes, Blanca d’Anjou.
